Roundup Lawsuits

Roundup lawsuits claim Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup, failed to warn users of the increased risk of developing non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) due to exposure to Roundup herbicide and its chemical components. Roundup is a glyphosate-based herbicide used to kill unwanted plants, made by Monsanto. Not every herbicide contains glyphosate. Roundup has been advertised to be less toxic than alternative herbicides.   Unfortunately, it does not seem to be.

Sanders Phillips Grossman is filing Roundup lawsuits against Monsanto for failure to warn about these dangerous side effects. If you have been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) it may be from using Roundup, please contact us for a free case evaluation.

In July 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) determined glyphosate, an active component in Roundup, is a Group 2A agent, making it “probably carcinogenic to humans.” IARC specifically linked Roundup herbicide to non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and its subtypes, such aslymphocytic lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, B-cell lymphoma, hairy cell leukemia, and many others.

Our law firm is seeking compensation on behalf of individuals who have been exposed to Roundup and diagnosed with NHL or any of its many subtypes.

In 2015, the World Health Organization’s cancer agency, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, discovered that glyphosate, one of the main ingredients in Roundup, is a possible carcinogen for both humans and animals that are exposed to it.

At this moment, there has been no official recall of Monsanto Roundup, with the Environmental Protection Agency backing the notion that Roundup possesses no cancer-causing qualities and that there is no “meaningful risk” to health.

However, plaintiff attorneys have claimed for years, Monsanto has known about the link between exposure to Roundup and certain types of cancer. The company tried to cover the risk of exposure and did not warn users of the dangers the product posed Monsanto marketed the product as safe and non-toxic to humans, pets, birds, and fish.

The most serious side effects of exposure to Roundup include the development of various forms of cancer, particularly:

  • Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Leukemia
  • B-cell Lymphoma

The people at most risk of exposure to glyphosate are:

  • Farm Workers
  • Garden Center Employees
  • Nursery Employees
  • Landscapers
  • Golfers

Approximately 70,000 people are diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma every year.

The most common form of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is B-cell Lymphoma, which makes up 90% of cases, while a little less than 10% is made up by T-cell Lymphoma. The last kind is NK-cell Lymphoma which makes up fewer than 1% of cases.

As of August 2019, there are over 1,200 pending lawsuits in federal court against Monsanto seeking damages for cancer diagnoses in relation to exposure to Roundup. The cases are in a coordinated litigation in the Northern District of California by Honorable Judge Vince Chhabria. The total number of plaintiffs is over 13,000 alleging that their non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was caused by glyphosate.Cases have already proceeded to trial in both state and federal courts, and many are awaiting trial in what remains of 2019 and 2020.

Currently, no large mass tort settlements have occurred involving Roundup and the link to cancer. Nevertheless, in August 2018, the first bellwether trial that involved an individual who claimed their non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma came from exposure to Roundup resulted in a $289 million verdict against Monsanto and the three jury verdicts to date have resulted in over $2 billion in damages.
